The High Sierra

California's incomparable Sierra Nevada is the backbone of this region. Natural attractions stagger the imagination — from emerald-hued Lake Tahoe, to sparkling Mammoth Lakes and towering Mt. Whitney. With three of the nations most treasured national parks, the High Sierra is truly an expression of American wilderness.

Some High Sierra Experiences
  • A half-smashed bologna sandwich on the top of the world, nearly 5,000 sheer feet above Yosemite Valley -- a priceless reward for the grueling 8 mile ascent... and caloric preparation for the pounding of the descent.
  • Pan-sized trout caught on dry-flies, and cooked over an open fire in a place only accessible to those hardy enough to hike there.
  • Blackjack ups and downs in a posh casino after a day of mogul grinding on the slopes above Lake Tahoe.
  • Peering straight through 100 feet of crystal clear water to see the trout on Tahoe's rocky bottom.
  • A solitary black bear navigates a hillside as you pass by, a different destination in mind.
  • Skiing by day, gambling by night in Lake Tahoe.
