and take the afternoon and evening to relax and
enjoy the coast on your own terms. |

| Day 2: |
San Diego
Start the adventure off on the right foot today,
as you set sail on the beautiful San Diego Bay.
Your skipper prepares an evening barbecue to enjoy
on the water, before returning to port, and an evening
on the San Diego coast. |

| Day 3: |
San Diego - Laguna Beach
An early morning finds you soaring over the North
County coastal hills in a hot air balloon, before
setting down for brunch. Afterward, you drive north
to the artist's village of Laguna Beach. At Laguna,
you augment your time people watching on the boardwalk
with time at the Sawdust Art Festival. |

| Day 4: |
Laguna Beach - Catalina Island
After breakfast, you set sail for Avalon to enjoy
one of Southern California's underappreciated attractions:
Catalina Island. While there, you enjoy some snorkeling,
parasailing and perhaps an inland tour. You sleep
onboard the sailboat tonight, allowing the gentle
rocking of the boat to lull you to sleep. |

| Day 5: |
Catalina Island - Santa Monica/Venice
Beach
Waking up in the morning in Avalon harbor, you enjoy
breakfast on board, before a leisurely sail along
the Catalina coast. In the afternoon, you set sail
for the mainland again, and a return to the journey
up the California coast. |

| Day 6: |
Santa Monica/Venice Beach/Malibu
Today's venue is the heart of the action in the
Los Angeles beach community. At Santa Monica and
Venice, you enjoy an atmosphere of street performers,
Santa Monica Pier amusements, bicycling and rollerblading.
At night, a variety of entertainment awaits. |

| Day 7: |
Venice Beach - Malibu - Santa Barbara
Today's drive brings you through Malibu en route
to the northern edge of the Southern California
coast. At Malibu, you stop to spend time at the
Getty Museum. You arrive in Santa Barbara late afternoon
and enjoy dinner at Stern's Wharf. |

| Day 8: |
Santa Barbara
Santa Barbara is home to miles of bicycle paths.
You pack a picnic lunch, and head out to the trails
for a day outdoors. In the afternoon, you visit
a couple of the numerous local wineries. |

| Day 9: |
Santa Barbara - San Simeon/Cambria
You continue your trek up the coast, passing through
the towns of San Luis Obispo and Pismo Beach en
route to the hamlet of Cambria. Evening sees you
enjoying fine dining seaside. |

| Day 10: |
San Simeon/Cambria - Big Sur -
Carmel/Monterey
The legendary Hearst Castle occupies your morning,
before you continue northward through the spectacular
Big Sur coastline. You arrive in Monterey/Carmel
for the evening. |

| Day 11: |
Carmel/Monterey
After breakfast in Carmel, you head out to sea for
a few hours in search of whales. When you arrive
back at Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey, you enjoy
the rest of the day exploring Cannery Row, 17-mile
Drive and the numerous art galleries of Carmel. |

Carmel/Monterey - Santa Cruz -
San Francisco
Morning sees you heading north toward San Francisco.
Along the way, you stop for a sea kayaking experience
with otters, harbor seals and a myriad of waterfowl.
Later, as you relax at Fisherman's Wharf in San
Francisco, you reflect on a great first half of
your coastal odyssey. |

| Day 13: |
San Francisco
Today, you sail out onto the San Francisco Bay aboard
a privately chartered sailboat. Enjoy dinner aboard
the boat, arriving back to port after sunset. |

| Day 14: |
San Francisco - Point Reyes - Bodega
Bay
You leave "the City", heading north over
the Golden Gate. You pass through quaint seaside
villages, and stop at the Point Reyes National Seashore
to view elephant seals as you head north. You spend
the evening in Bodega Bay. |

| Day 15: |
Bodega Bay - Mendocino
More spectacular Pacific seascapes today, as you
travel the Sonoma and Mendocino coasts. At Mendocino,
you settle in for a quiet evening of fine dining
and a cozy fire. |

| Day 16: |
Mendocino
Coastal trails mix coastal redwoods with rocky shoreline.
You spend the first half of the day exploring these
trails on horseback before returning to Mendocino
town to relish in the art culture of the area. |
 |
| Day 17: |
Mendocino - Shelter Cove
You leave civilization far in your wake today, as
your journey finds you going where the famed Highway
1 doesn't even go: The Lost Coast. The remote village
of Shelter Cove provides an opportunity to explore
some of the last truly wild coastline on the West
Coast. |
 |
| Day 18: |
Shelter Cove
Hiking. The numerous wild and wonderful trails to
be found on the Lost Coast make this a hiker's paradise.
You spend the day treking. World-class tide-pools
fascinate along the way. |
 |
| Day 19: |
Shelter Cove - Klamath
The drive out of the Lost Coast is a bit bumpy,
but worth it. As you creep closer to civilization
again, you pass through forgotten homesteads and
lonely oceanside vignettes. Later in the day, you
come to the Redwood National Park. You meet your
local guide, who takes you on a moonlight nature
walk. |

| Day 20: |
Klamath
A jetboat tour up the Klamath River with a barbecue
dinner finds you in the heart of the redwoods, viewing
wild animals in natural habitats. You watch the
sun set on your final full day of the journey. |
 |
| Day 21: |
Depart Crescent City
A few miles from Klamath, you board a plane
for the first leg of the trip home. Memories of
the trip join you on the flight. |
